Doris Leslis Blau's Storage Room
Antique Turkish Oushak Carpet
Antique Moroccan Carpet
Antique Indian Rug
I remember taking the old slow elevator up to the 7th floor of the Interior Design Building on 61st street, the same building Bunny Williams office is in, to Doris Leslie Blau's showroom. My heart would almost start pounding before I would enter the door. As I walked through the door the wooden floors would creek. This was a wonderfully simple showroom with white wall, big glass windows that looked out to 61st street and wooden floors. It was a perfect backdrop for what lies inside. Doris has one of the finest antique carpet collections in the world. From antique Turkish Oushak carpets to modernist or even Moroccan. This is where my love for antique carpets began. I really love rugs with an all over pattern and a softer color palette. A rug should be a back drop for all your wonderful furniture and art collections, not something that pops out at you everytime you look down. I find antique rugs to be very inspiring for a color scheme for a room. Start thinking about what type of rug you would like to purchase someday. Think about what would works best in your home? Maybe it something as simple as a woven sisal.
